Beyond the balance sheet

Risky tax avoidance schemes are being exposed gradually [Video]

Joe Lennon 23/2/2016 2 minute read

Joe Lennon FCCA shares a Dispatches programme on how some people use avoidance schemes to pay little to no tax.

Shortly after releasing our post on Tax avoidance: How to shun these 9 exposed (celebrity invested) schemes, Channel 4's Dispatches programme teamed up with actor Greg Wise to do an undercover expose. Whilst we explained what constitutes a tax avoidance scheme and provided examples questioned by HMRC, Wise and his team have delved further into this secretive world to reveal what some advisors are selling to high net worth individuals.

The methods described of how individuals circumvent paying much if any tax (depending on their moral compass), will no doubt shock. The good news however, is tax avoidance is the topic that won't go away in Parliament and the mainstream media. Television productions like this are a big embarrassment to those involved and could help to act as a deterrent by exposing the full scale of the issue. Of note, Wellers do not actively promote tax schemes in any way. If you're concerned about an investment you may have made in a product of this nature then be sure to contact one of our partners.
